VICTOR DISSEL

Reflect is an audiovisual installation that transforms sound frequencies into mesmerizing patterns on a water surface. Rooted in Victor Dissel’s background as a composer and sound designer, the work embodies his fascination with the physical manifestations of sound.

In Reflect, Victor explores a simulatable form of natural patterns—combining water, sound, and movement—coming together in ensembles that evoke a sense of hypnosis or trance. The installation consists of several independent speaker plates, each operated by a unique system that generates compositions exclusively from simple sound waves, known as sine waves. By assigning unique frequencies and timings to each wave, the system produces an endless variety of harmonies that interact with the water’s surface. This way the work reveals the impact sound pollution has on the aquatic ecosystem.

For this special edition, Victor collaborated with light artist Wes Broersen to create a dynamic interplay of laser projections. The precise beams of light establish a new dialogue with the organically moving water surface, adding another layer to the immersive experience.
