MICHAL Kucharski

Set in Nowa Huta, an old industrial neighborhood in southern Poland, this video work explores boyhood shaped by fading ideals and industrial decline. Returning to the place where he grew up, Kucharski reflects on a youth observed from the sidelines.Through staged scenes and conversations with locals, he blends personal stories with collective memories, capturing tensions between past dreams and an uncertain future. By creating this idealized portrait of his old home, influenced by industrial pride and archetypes of violence, he seeks to understand his detachment from the neighborhood’s identity and the forces that shaped his generation.

Michał Kucharski is a visual artist primarily working with videography and photography. With his work, he explores human relations and social behaviours, in a staged and directed context. Working with people is an essential part of this process, where he questions the established boundaries in daily life. His projects often involve actors, but also people met in public spaces. By creating narratives and scenarios, he achieves an intimate exploration of emotions, beliefs, and norms. His installations typically result in multi-channel audiovisual works that create immersive environments, hinting at darkness and challenging notions of reality and fiction.
