Shapeshifters is an installation whose concept was inspired by the idea that it would be wonderful if we could effortlessly choose and change who we want to be. With this work, Anneliek aims to create a space where every form of being human is accepted, embraced and possible, without limitations imposed by societal norms.

Anneliek's work could be best characterized as teasing. The word has a double meaning, she likes to play with. On one hand teasingly playful, on the other hand provocative, irritating. Her installations offer an intimate, sometimes voyeuristic view of identity, sexuality and the influence of societal expectations. In her work she challenges the viewer to reflect on the power of the gaze. It feels as if you are looking from the perspective of a voyeur, uncomfortably aware of your role as an observer. What does it mean to look? And what does it mean to be seen?
